Whole-Home Ventilation Installation, Repair & Maintenance in Burlington

Newer homes are sealed tighter than ever, which means stale air has nowhere to go. A well-insulated, tightly sealed home is great for your energy bill, but terrible at getting rid of stale air on its own. Without a way to actually exchange indoor air for fresh outdoor air, moisture, odors, and pollutants just keep recirculating instead of leaving. In southeastern Wisconsin, that shows up as two every different seasonal problems: dry, stagnant air in winter when opening a window isn't an option, and sticky, humid air in summer that a standard AC alone doesn't fully resolve.

H.J. Faust, Inc. has installed and serviced whole-home ventilation systems in Burlington since 1978. Our approach is still as thorough as ever. We first assess your home, how it's built, how tight it is, what issues you're noticing, before we recommend anything to you.

HRV or ERV: Which One Fits Your Home

Both systems do the same basic job: continuously swapping stale indoor air for filtered outdoor air without cracking a window or losing the energy you've already spent heating or cooling your home. Where they differ is what else they carry along with the exchange, and that difference matters more here than it would in a milder climate.

The Lennox Healthy Climate HRV transfers heat only. It captures warmth from the outgoing air and uses it to pre-warm incoming fresh air before it reaches your furnace. This softens the load a Burlington winter puts on your heating system. It's the simpler choice when your main concern is retaining heat, and humidity control isn't a major factor for your home.

The Lennox Healthy Climate ERV transfers heat and moisture. In summer, it strips some humidity out of incoming outdoor air before it ever gets inside. In winter, it holds onto moisture your home already has instead of exhausting it out with every air exchange. Because southeastern Wisconsin swings between genuinely dry winters and genuinely humid summers, an ERV is often the better fit for homes that are already dealing with humidity extremes in both directions rather than just one.

Neither system produces ozone as a byproduct, which sets both apart from some other air purification approaches.

Why an In-Home Assessment Is Needed

Not every home is a clean fit for the same setup, and a few things shape what installation actually looks like. Both HRV and ERV units need a path to the outside for intake and exhaust venting, so exterior wall or roof access near the mechanical space is critical. Homes with existing ductwork can usually have the system integrated directly into it, while homes without compatible ductwork, or with a layout where that doesn't make sense, can still get a standalone system instead. New construction isn't a requirement either way.

How tightly your home is sealed also factors into sizing. A newer, heavily weatherized home generally needs more mechanical air exchange than an older, leakier one, since it has less natural infiltration to rely on. None of this is something we guess at from a phone call. It's what the in-home assessment is for.

What Happens During a Ventilation Assessment

We walk through your home to see how it's built and where the mechanical room, ductwork, and exterior access points actually are. We ask what you've been noticing, like stale odors, condensation on windows, allergy symptoms that ease up when you're not home, since that tells us as much as the physical inspection does. We check your existing ductwork's condition and layout to determine whether integration makes sense or a standalone unit is the better call, and we calculate sizing based on your home's square footage and how tightly it's sealed. You get a specific recommendation at the end of that visit, not a generic one.

Premier Equipment, Installed by People Trained to Do It Right

We install the Lennox Healthy Climate HRV and ERV lines specifically, both of which can integrate with your existing ductwork and heating and cooling equipment. Both use simple controls so you can adjust airflow yourself as your household's needs change.

Every technician we send is NATE-certified, which means they've passed nationally recognized testing across heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration, but that certification sits on top of a five-year apprenticeship built on real fieldwork under a senior mechanic, not just a classroom course, plus at least four additional training sessions every year after that. We're BBB accredited and carry an Excellent rating across hundreds of Google reviews, with customers regularly mentioning how clearly we explain what we're recommending and why.

Keeping a Ventilation System Working as Designed

HRVs and ERVs need periodic attention to keep performing the way they were installed to: filters cleaned or replaced, fans inspected, airflow verified. If those steps are skipped, the first warning signs are usually reduced airflow, humidity swinging back out of balance, or your energy bill creeping up, all of which are cheaper to prevent than to fix after the fact.

Our Annual Maintenance Program covers a spring cooling check-up and a fall heating check-up, a 30-point inspection each visit, priority scheduling, no overtime charges after hours, and 10% off any parts or labor if something needs repair in between. If a bigger repair or a system upgrade comes up, financing is available to help with timing.

Schedule Your Burlington Ventilation Assessment

Improving your indoor air quality starts with actually understanding what your specific home needs, not assuming an HRV or ERV based on what worked for someone else's house. We'll walk the space, ask the right questions, and give you a straight answer about what fits.
